Requiem Concert

On Sept 10, 2006, our choir, Alata Harmonia Chorus sang Requiem by Huang An Lun.

It was an occasion to commemorate the 5th anniversary of 911, and it was especially meaningful because both the composer and the person who wrote the lyrics were present to listen to the piece.

This Requiem captures the Christian view of death, as life forever with God in heaven. It is full of hope and peace, not gloom and sorrow. Just so happened I was watching a 911 special on the Discovery channel today, which reminded me how traumatic this event was at the time. To be singing a Requiem on the same evening allowed me to have a visual of the people who I was singing this Requiem to. In a way, I felt connected to them and wish that they have found peace.
Our choir, Alata, has sung this piece 3 times already. Once last year in November to help raise funds for the South East Asia Tsunami, once in Montreal for the Internation Choral Festival in July 2006, and this is the third time. We weren't perfect in any of these 3 times, but personally, I felt God listening to us every time we sang it and is pleased with us. Towards the end, I even felt that the heavens opened up and there was a beam of light shining on us.

Tomorrow will mark the 5th anniversary of 911. I wish for all the family and friends who were affected by this event find faith, hope, and love.
