Wow! I saw the most amazing reality show ever!
Our company is fundraising for the United Way and today, we invited a hypnotist, Mark Anthony, to put on a show for us during lunch time.
I, along with a couple of friends at work, were curious and skeptical at the same time, so we went to check it out. The show was roughly around 1 hour 15 minutes.
At the beginning, he asked all the audience to stand (including me), and do this finger exercise with him. Whoever was successful at the exercise (meaning was able to follow his instructions) became volunteers as the subjects of the show. Around 10 people volunteered themselves to go on stage.
Out of the 10 people, he did some more "hypnotic" exercises (Sorry, I don't know the terminology too well...) to make sure they went into deep sleep. Then, the fun begins...
- He told one subject that he was a ballerina and he was performing on stage. Then, he started twirling around and doing leaps and all sorts of "ballet" movements!
- He told one subject that the belt on the ground was in fact a snake and was going to kill us all, so the subject had to sneak up on it and grab the snake/belt by its head. But whenever the snake made a hissing sound, the subject will have to back away because it was dangerous. The subject then got down on the floor, started to crawl towards the snake/belt and ducked when the hypnotist made a hissing sound!! It was amazing!! (I do feel bad for the subject though)
- One of the weirdest one was he asked one subject his name. After he told the audience (he was under hypnosis btw), the hypnotist put him to sleep again and told the subject he will forget his name. Then, the hypnotist asked him for his name the second time, he paused and couldn't recall!!! Then, he was put to sleep again and this time the hypnotist reversed it so the subject was able to recall his name again.
It was unbelievable!!! I was literally covering my mouth the whole time in amazement. It was scary how the hypnotist can play with people's minds like that. His voice was quite magnetic and captivating I find. Maybe that's it. A good voice is the trick??
The funniest act was telling one subject that he had to go to the bathroom really badly...then the subject woke up (still hypnotized) and started to cross his legs. The hypnotist then put him to sleep again and every time he did that, he told the subject his bladder was getting fuller and fuller. It was hilarious to see the subject's reaction!! Finally, the hypnotist put him to sleep again and told the subject that when he wakes up, he will walk to the bathroom, relieve himself, and finally wake up...haha....funny stuff.
On my way back to my cube, I bumped into the subjects and of course, people were asking how they felt. They said that they remembered glimpses of it, but had no control over what they were doing. One was still half asleep and needed some friends to escort her back.
It was a really good show and I was a little hyper afterwards with amazement. Once I quiet down and think about it, I find hypnosis quite powerful, yet freightening because it taps into the unknown. If you've seen these types of shows before, I'm sure you'll know what I mean.
If you are curious and want to know more about the show, message me!
You are getting very sleepy....very sleepy...
