Time honestly flies...our wedding day seems to be so vivid in our memory....every family member, every friend, every picture... For our 1 year anniversary, we decided to go on a trip to Elora, Ontario. It's a small, quaint town just north of Guelph. We booked a B&B for 2 nights (3 Bears) and we did so much during our stay!
On Saturday, we checked out downtown Elora and since they have a Elora music festival, a lot of stores were open for longer to accommodate for all the visitors. It was a very relaxing walk with beautiful scenary and we even had dandelion icecream! That was delicious!!! (It tastes like green tea icecream where it's a little bitter, but the flavour was similar to mocha but less sweet.) We had dinner at 15 Mill Street, which has a deck right beside the river. It was so good to relax and chat. After dinner, we went back to 3 bears and cut the chocolate mocha layered cheesecake that I made! For the first time too! (btw, thanks to JKL and Jeeva for giving me tips!!!!) It turned out well :)
The next day, we ventured out to St. Jacob to see their Farmer's Market (it was so-so...) and then went hiking around the Elora Gorge conservation park. The scenary was so gorgeous, especially on a sunny day like ours. Then, we stopped by at the Elora Quarry and I did something really crazy...I didn't have my swimming gear with me, but there was a cliff (2-storey high) and many people were jumping down the cliff...Yusuf went ahead and jumped into the water, but I was hesitant. First because it's a long way down and second, I didn't have the right clothes on...but after a few minutes of contemplating, I finally decided to jump! "swoosh!" It was so fun!!! I now regret not doing it a second time....
We had dinner at a restaurant called Delaney's in a nearby town called Fergus and headed back to the b&b.On Monday, I woke up super early to go line up for river tubing. River tubing, for those of you who don't know what it is, you basically sit on a huge inflatable lifesaver and go down the river on it. Usually, there is a HUGE lineup and everyone has to go there to line up early to make sure you get a spot. I lined up by myself (Yusuf was enjoying his breakfast...) and 2 hours later, I got 2 tubes!
We didn't enjoy the river tubing. For one thing, I tried putting on my contacts and for some reason, my left eye kept tearing, so I was only able to put in my right contacts. So, with 1 eye, we went down the river...some parts were quite fast and we both flipped over very early on in the ride. (The ride is around 40 minutes and once you go, there is NO turning back!) After flipping over, we both banged our knees against the rocks many, many, many times. The water is super shallow, I'm not sure if it even goes up to our knees! So our knees were completely bruised! After that, I got a little scared (keep in mind, I only have 1 eye vision) and didn't know what other rapids were coming! So I tried to look for Yusuf and stay together with him, but I think cuz we are both too light, we keep getting washed up to the shore...and finally, I got pushed by the current into a tree....and the branches poked through my tube and POPPED it!!!! omg....I was NOT impressed :(
I then swam towards Yusuf and both of us were on his tube (imagine an equal sign on the tube) and managed to complete the river tube. Actually, we enjoyed this part more because we were together and both of our weight was perfect for riding the current! All in all, I didn't find this a very good experience...maybe the water level is a bit high this year from the snow and rain???
Anyways, after the river tubing, we had lunch in Fergus and then called it a weekend and headed home.
Despite the river tubing "adventure", we had a great time together and celebrated our 1 year anniversary. "Happy anniversary!"
