Today was culture day. We had a late start. Okay, we do need rest after a long day yesterday - we aren't 18 anymore...unfortunately.
Around 2pm, we first headed down to MET (Metropolitan Museum of Art) at 5th Avenue and 82th Street. One of the featured exhibit was the Poiret - King of fashion which was pretty awesome to see. He was a very advanced designer at the time and his designs I would say is pretty fashionable if it was shown on the runway nowadays. Other fascinating exhibits were their Egyptian artifacts, Greek and Roman sculptures and armours displays. I couldn't help but to take many photos. We also took the elevator to the top floor (5th) where there is a garden with scultures and we got a great top view of the Central Park!
Due to time, we had to leave in roughly 2 hours time and walked over to The Museum of Modern Art (MoMA for short) located at 5th Avenue and 53th Street. We started by visiting the gift shop first, and there were tons of neat things to look at!!! Actually, we ended up only shopping at the gift store! Yes, we didn't go in the museum....haha....it was 6:30pm and we needed to start heading over to the theatre district.
We planned to watch another musical tonight as well. We haven't settled for anything yet, hoping to see the Jersey Boys though. We heard many good reviews about it. We grabbed a quick bite at Au Bon Pain and walked over to Broadway Ave. Sad to say, Jersey Boys didn't have stand up tickets...so we rushed over to The Colour Purple to see if they had last minute tickets. None. Okay, what do we do?
Adrian and I decided to go check out Les Miserables. Even though we've both seen it before, we both love the music. So we ran to Broadway and 44th Street and ran to the box office. By now, it's already 8pm! We were crossing our fingers (toes if we could too!). Yay, they have standing tickets!!!
We got in just in time for the curtains to come up. The cast was amazing! Everyone was great, well, except I didn't like young Cosette and adult Cosette's singing too much. Jean Valjean, Eponine and Marius were superb. We were just thrilled to listen to familiar songs and even sing along from here and there. The show ended at 11pm and although we were standing for 3 hours, it was definitely worth it!
One thing about standing tickets though. We really noticed that the staff treated us very differently than people with seated tickets. It was almost like they were talking down to us which we didn't appreciate at all. But I must say, we only experienced this tonight, last night at Chicago was fine.
After the show, we were ready for another meal...haha...seems like we are always eating. We took the subway back to Amsterdam Ave and 125th Street to a little homey Italian restaurant called Max Soha where we had a Proscuitto & salad and a raggatoni with eggplants. It was just perfect for us to close off the day.
Here are some pictures so far:
