A funfilled weekend in Bruce Peninsula

After total of 650 km of travelling, 9 hours of driving, and 3 days without shower (it was the only bad thing about the whole trip), Yusuf and I are back from our Tobermory camping trip!

The trip was awesome to say the least. It was good to have some time to ourselves, and to be able to venture in such a beautiful place made it even more splendid.

Day 1

We left the house around 10:30am in the morning and started driving. We were worried about the traffic, so we went North on Hwy 404 until Davis Dr, then across to Hwy 400, then up to Hwy 89. Continue West on 89 and then Hwy 10, 21, 6 and finally we arrived at Cyprus Lake National Park at around 3pm. We then quickly set up our tent and went for a 2 hour hike.

We hiked within the national park. The trail went around Cyprus Lake, then into the woods and quickly took us to the grotto. The grotto is basically a hole in the rock formation. It is created with the force of the waves washing against it for thousands of years, and it really makes you realize how powerful forces of nature can be! We did quite a bit of rock climbing to get to the grotto, then hiked to the cave. It was really fun!

After the 2 hour hike (and tons of pictures after), we returned to our camp and started preparing for dinner. On our way back to the camp, we were able to catch the sunset on Cyprus Lake. It was really pretty! We bbq'd. I bought 2 delicious grill sirloin steak (so yummy) and Yusuf cooked it on bbq forks. I wish we took a picture!!! We were so hungry that we only focused on preparing the food...no pics :(

Not only did we have 2 steaks, I also bought some mushrooms, corn and finished off with some purple yam!!! The dinner was soooo fulfilling :P
We then headed to the lake to do some stargazing. Unfortunately, it was cloudy and we had to call it a night....

Day 2

We woke up bright and early (with all the animals waking us up) at 7am and we were really looking forward to driving to Tobermory. Tobermory is a nearby town at the tip of the peninsula (it was about 15 minutes drive North). We had breakfast then headed off. We planned to take Blue Heron V cruiseship for a tour to see the shipwrecks and to take us to the Flowerpot Island (part of the Fathom Five National Park) for some more hiking.

(Side Note: Yusuf also found 'his' boat along the docks....so we took a picture. In case you can't see, the boat's name is 'Josef'...)

We took a stroll around the town of Tobermory (it's like Main Street or St. Jacob's) with many unique shops. It was really relaxing just to walking around and discover what they had to offer. Then, it was time for our cruise!

The cruise cost $30 per person (adult) and it takes you to the shipwrecks (the ship has a glass bottom so you can see the wrecks from inside the ship), and then it tours around the Flowerpot Island before transfering you to a smaller boat to dock. The boat would then pick you up from the Flowerpot Island for the return trip, but be sure to arrive at the dock on time.

Flowerpot Island was amazing. The flowerpots (earned the name from the shape of the rocks), were formed through 120,000 years! The water kept washing away parts of the rock, leaving the flowerpot shape behind. Truly amazing! We really took our time on the island to hike along the rock shoreline which was so gorgeous. Although it was quite tiring and for some parts quite adventurous and dangerous for me, I still really enjoyed it! We were able to take some incredible pictures!

The cruise ended at 7:30pm, then we decided to have fish and chips (they are offered everywhere in Tobermory) for dinner. After dinner, we returned to our camp and went stargazing by the lake. The sky was filled with stars! You wouldn't believe how many stars are actually in the sky at night! Either that or you wouldn't believe how poluted Toronto's sky is....

Day 3

Our last day...we woke up at 7:30am again (the animals were calling again) and started preparing for breakfast. Since we had to checkout, we spent quite a bit of time packing up. We were ready to leave at 11am and headed to Sauble Beach (about 1 hour drive from Tobermory on the way home). We had a great afternoon there just playing in the water, jumping waves, and lying in the sun. To top the afternoon off, Yusuf flew his man-kite! Here is a video of it!

We then headed home around 6pm and watched the sunset while we were in the car. It was the perfect weekend.

PS - If you are still wondering about the 3 days without shower, I'll tell you the whole story in person...hehe....
