1 year anniversary

Time honestly flies...our wedding day seems to be so vivid in our memory....every family member, every friend, every picture...

For our 1 year anniversary, we decided to go on a trip to Elora, Ontario. It's a small, quaint town just north of Guelph. We booked a B&B for 2 nights (3 Bears) and we did so much during our stay!

On Saturday, we checked out downtown Elora and since they have a Elora music festival, a lot of stores were open for longer to accommodate for all the visitors. It was a very relaxing walk with beautiful scenary and we even had dandelion icecream! That was delicious!!! (It tastes like green tea icecream where it's a little bitter, but the flavour was similar to mocha but less sweet.) We had dinner at 15 Mill Street, which has a deck right beside the river. It was so good to relax and chat. After dinner, we went back to 3 bears and cut the chocolate mocha layered cheesecake that I made! For the first time too! (btw, thanks to JKL and Jeeva for giving me tips!!!!) It turned out well :)

The next day, we ventured out to St. Jacob to see their Farmer's Market (it was so-so...) and then went hiking around the Elora Gorge conservation park. The scenary was so gorgeous, especially on a sunny day like ours. Then, we stopped by at the Elora Quarry and I did something really crazy...I didn't have my swimming gear with me, but there was a cliff (2-storey high) and many people were jumping down the cliff...Yusuf went ahead and jumped into the water, but I was hesitant. First because it's a long way down and second, I didn't have the right clothes on...but after a few minutes of contemplating, I finally decided to jump! "swoosh!" It was so fun!!! I now regret not doing it a second time....
We had dinner at a restaurant called Delaney's in a nearby town called Fergus and headed back to the b&b.
On Monday, I woke up super early to go line up for river tubing. River tubing, for those of you who don't know what it is, you basically sit on a huge inflatable lifesaver and go down the river on it. Usually, there is a HUGE lineup and everyone has to go there to line up early to make sure you get a spot. I lined up by myself (Yusuf was enjoying his breakfast...) and 2 hours later, I got 2 tubes!
We didn't enjoy the river tubing. For one thing, I tried putting on my contacts and for some reason, my left eye kept tearing, so I was only able to put in my right contacts. So, with 1 eye, we went down the river...some parts were quite fast and we both flipped over very early on in the ride. (The ride is around 40 minutes and once you go, there is NO turning back!) After flipping over, we both banged our knees against the rocks many, many, many times. The water is super shallow, I'm not sure if it even goes up to our knees! So our knees were completely bruised! After that, I got a little scared (keep in mind, I only have 1 eye vision) and didn't know what other rapids were coming! So I tried to look for Yusuf and stay together with him, but I think cuz we are both too light, we keep getting washed up to the shore...and finally, I got pushed by the current into a tree....and the branches poked through my tube and POPPED it!!!! omg....I was NOT impressed :(
I then swam towards Yusuf and both of us were on his tube (imagine an equal sign on the tube) and managed to complete the river tube. Actually, we enjoyed this part more because we were together and both of our weight was perfect for riding the current! All in all, I didn't find this a very good experience...maybe the water level is a bit high this year from the snow and rain???
Anyways, after the river tubing, we had lunch in Fergus and then called it a weekend and headed home.

Despite the river tubing "adventure", we had a great time together and celebrated our 1 year anniversary. "Happy anniversary!"

Good mask from Shiseido

Aside from my love of music and travels, I also love to scope out good beauty products! There is this mask that I want to recommend for a long time already, but haven't had the time to do so...

My friend bought me this mask from Hong Kong. It's a whitening mask and it's called "Hydro White brightening mask" by Shiseido. I find that everytime I use it, my skin gives off a natural glow afterwards and I look more alive. Definitely recommend it to all you ladies!

Initially when I put it on my skin, there is a little tingly sensation, but not too much that will irritate.

The little bump on my hand - Part 4

Yes, there is actually a Part 4. Just thought that I can put the bump on my hand behind me...it started to hurt...I suspect it's because of all the P90X pushups....so I went to York Central this morning to see the hand surgeon and thought I would be getting surgery to fix it....
He took at a look at it and before I could react (in ANY way), he jabbed a needle into the bump and let out all the fluid...I know...ewww, right?
It actually hurt for a few days!!! But, my bump is gone :P

SATC!

So, my girlfriend and I finally watched SATC (Sex and the City) movie. We talked about it for a long time, but never was able to lock in a date...

Anyways, my thoughts on the movie....Overall, I give this movie a 2 (sorry ladies)!

First of all, I didn't cry (as some of my friends warned me). I thought that the "twist" was a little random and Carrie is better off anyways...Secondly, everything was very predictable which made it boring...and I don't have a thirdly cuz I'm loosing interest in just writing this entry...

The BEST thing about the movie, of course, are the clothes and bags and shoes! Oh my! The Vera Wang dress was just stunning...along with other amazing outfits. This was worth 2 points to me :P

Off to see the wizard!

This past weekend, my mom and I headed off to Kansas City and Omaha for my cousin's wedding. We flew off on 4th of July, landing there in the afternoon. We met up with everyone for a nice BBQ, catching up on our recent lives, and doing last items for the wedding the next day. The evening ended with 4th of July fireworks in a nearby park.

Sat, July 5th
I had the honour to play flute during their unity candle lighting. Early in the morning, I went to the church ahead of time to runthrough the song with the accompanist. At 10:30am, the wedding ceremony began in a beautiful and warm Catholic church. After the ceremony, there was a very nice lunch reception with a beautiful wedding cake!
We left when the dancing started and visited a museum in Kansas City - Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art. This museum is well-known for its wide collection of Asian art. Since my cousin from Boston is an Asian art history professor, it was perfect that we visited this museum and had her be a guide while touring all the art items.
That evening, we drove to Omaha (3 hour drive) to our other cousin's place. During that drive, we actually crossed 3 states! Kansas, Iowa and Nebraska! I discovered that I suck in US geography...

Sun, July 6th
Woke up early to play with little Aubrey. She is so adorable!!! a bundle of energy - ALL THE TIME! She eats so well by herself and she's such a playful girl! I love her to death!!!

My flight was in the early afternoon, so they dropped me off at the airport...but after a 2-hour hoopla....my flight left...WITHOUT ME!!!! So I headed back to join the family in the fun festivities...we had a delicious BBQ that evening!Side story - During our stay in Omaha, it was the same weekend as the USA swimming meet for the Olympics...and I actually saw Michael Phelps at the front of the tryout building!!! That was one of the highlights....

Mon, July 7th
Today was zoo day. We visited the Omaha zoo, and the zoo is very well laid-out and built with lots of rare animals! Shortly after lunch, I went to the airport and tried again....

Catching up on movies

For the past 2 weekends, we have been watching quite a lot of movies. We watched:

1. Indiana Jones - Only so-so, not too exciting and the plot was definitely too predictable. I only give it a 2.

2. Kung Fu Panda - Hilarious!!! If you don't watch it in the theatre, you should rent the DVD for sure!!! Some super funny parts - must see! I give it a 4!

3. Meet the Spartans - Borrowed the DVD from a friend. We put it on while folding laundry...not really worth the time, I give it a 1. If you like the Scary Movie type of humour, you might give it a higher rating...

4. Get Smart - It was pretty good! I love Steve Carell, so I was really looking forward to this movie! I think his character in this movie was very well defined. You'll know what I mean when you watch the movie...(I liked how he was different from Michael Scott in The Office too) I give this movie a 3.5.

Still many movies we want to watch....

Busy Weekend!

This past weekend was pretty crazy, packed with "activities"....

Friday the 13th - my birthday (no need to reveal the age)
Can't believe it's another year! I'm so thankful to have so many friends wish me happy birthday, thanks everyone! For this year, I wanted to spend it quietly with my family (with Yusuf as the addition), so my mom, Yusuf and I went to dinner at Carnaval.

Saturday - BBQ with church friends
Luckily, the crazy storms did not affect our previous BBQ plans, and we went to Milne Dam Conservation Park at Highway 7 and McCowan Road. After the BBQ, we hung out at our friend's place for a bit (playing wii!) and had dinner.

Sunday - Ant Hunting in between 2 meals
Had lunch with my grade school friends at an Indian restaurant. One of our friend is working in Toronto on a transfer and we wanted to introduce her to this restaurant, we had a great time catching up (from our Tobermory camping trip!)
I bet you are wondering about the title!!! Yes, we have ant problem (again...from last year). They have apparently moved comfortably into our basement and found a home in the pink insulation tucked into the basement ceiling!!! My mom, Yusuf and I spent a good 4 hours locating their home, moving them (and their eggs!!!) into a giant swimming pool (a bucket full of water) and spraying their "home" with bug spray...it was such a workout! We were in shower caps, latex gloves, goggles, and N95 masks! For those of you who don't know what N95 masks are, think SARS and Mrs. Tung!
After this tiresome activity, we all went out to dinner with my Lai Lai and Sis-in-law (Safiah). We had a great time at Pickle Barrel and Lai Lai treated! Yusuf bought me a very yummy mango cheesecake too!

Something tragic that I witnessed...

Today after work, I went over to visit a good friend's daughter who is 2 years old. After playing in the park, I went home about 7pm and witnessed something very horrible.

There was some traffic at Markland and Woodbine, one set of lights north of 16th and when I finally got close enough to see what was going on, I saw a guy lying on the ground with his head and arms covered in blood!!! I was so shocked that I can feel myself trembling a little bit!

Then, I saw a few cars had stopped around and people were on their cell phones, so I assumed that they were calling the police to get some help.

The next day, I saw this unfortunate news on The Star.

It was a hit and run and turned out the man was a relative of a member in my mom's church (MCBC).

Our birthday dinner gift

Our good friends JKL and Danny have given us a very special "私房菜"present! They, well, JKL, cooked a very delicious 4-course meal for Yusuf and I to celebrate our birthday! It was really great to get together and just catch up.
We ate a delicious salad (with Yusuf's favourite avocado in it), cucumber soup, sirloin steak and wild mushroom risotto (very yummy) and to top it off, we watched a movie and had dessert afterwards (baked peach with icecream). She can probably be more detailed with her descriptions! haha...

It was such a great time! Here is JKL's blog entry with pictures.
Thanks JKL & Danny ~~~~

Happy Birthday Honey!

It's Yusuf's birthday!!! Safiah got us tickets to Wonderland so we spent a funfilled day there. Here are some pictures! Our first ride at the park was the new Bohemeth! It was a crazy ride and I was so surprised that even Lai Lai rode on it! After Wonderland, we had dinner at Restoran and Safiah got him a tiramisu cake! Clearly, he didn't want to grow older...haha...

My mom also made a cake for Yusuf for his birthday.

Happy 1st birthday together~

Goodbye Sol

Last night, we heard the shocking news that our friend passed away in an accident. We were both speechless because it was so unexpected and we both feel that he's got such a great, contagious personality that it's a shame to lose...

He introduced to us truly authentic Indian food and we always have very good conversations. He's always making jokes and everyone feels so comfortable around him. I regret not getting together sooner and introducing him to this restaurant we know he'll love...

Sol, rest in peace. Although we have only met for a year or so, I will not forget what a great person you are.

Canadian Music Competition (CMC)

Tonight, I attended one session of the piano competition at U of T with a friend. This is the first round of qualifying, so all the participants will get a "passing grade", whether they are moving on to the second round or not. The calibre is quite high for this competition, especially because the age group we listened to was the 25 year old one.

Here is more information if you are interested. Admission is free, and it's worth a listen. I'm going to try and catch more sessions...perhaps a voice session!
